Math and Arts Summer Camp in Lisbon

Math during the holidays? This summer course in Lisbon promises to surprise you with lots of fun and challenges!

"What? Math during the holidays?!"

If you can't imagine your children being interested in participating in a summer math course, we assure you: there will be no tests, no boring textbooks, no comparisons, and no pressure to do quick calculations. 

Instead, mathematical activities will dismantle useless myths that our society has about mathematics, opening minds, expanding our capabilities, making mathematics fun and collaborative, like young detectives investigating patterns, giving presentations, drawing their thought process, and sharing how we all see the same thing differently. 

Why participate in this Math and Arts Summer Camp?

This course is already in its third edition, and families seek it out for multiple reasons. Some because their children enjoy mathematics, others because they need to begin a new relationship with this subject, and still others to spark an interest in mathematics.

Mathematical Mindsets activities will be held in the morning and Creative Labs in the afternoon, with an updated program of activities. The Mathematical Mindsets activities will be led by Dr. Sara Santos, and guest artists will conduct the Creative Labs.

Program

Mathematical Mindsets activities will be held in the morning and Creative Labs in the afternoon.

Conducted by Dr. Sara Santos:

The morning sessions include increasing self-awareness for teamwork skills and abilities through games, the neuroscience of learning, the neuroscience of mathematics, drawing motion graphics, building shapes with rope and pieces, and investigation.Activities involving numbers, shapes, patterns, explaining our thoughts using words and diagrams, leading to age-appropriate mathematical tests.

In previous editions, the afternoon sessions included:

• a two-week project involving Painting, Drawing and Ceramics

• Crochet and Paper Folding

• Movement for expression, Songwriting and Singing, Music Making, Storytelling

Timetable

The Mathematics and Arts Summer Camp takes place from June 29th to July 10th, 2026, Monday to Friday, for two weeks, from 9:00 AM to 16:00 PM.

Languages

The monitors communicate in both Portuguese and English. Another advantage of this after-school program: it gives children the opportunity to develop their English.

Prices for the Math and Arts Summer Camp

Mornings only (9:00 – 13:00): €445 The course lasts two weeks. Lunch is not included. 

All day (9:00 – 16:00):  698 € The course lasts two weeks. Lunch is not included. 

Lunch

Meals (snacks and lunches) are the responsibility of the families. The Goethe Institut has a cafeteria on site.

Specialized Care

The mathematical mindset activities will be conducted by Dr. Sara Santos, and there are guest artists leading the Creative Labs.

About Dr. Sara Santos:

British and Portuguese, Sara holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Manchester. She has over 25 years of experience as a university lecturer, professor, consultant, and science communicator.

Sara was a BBC commentator on mathematics and made numerous appearances in international media. In the UK, she worked at the Royal Institution of Great Britain, King's College London, and founded the Maths Busking project.

In Portugal, she is a founding Fellow of Forward College. In 2024, she created the Summer Course in Mathematical Mindsets, a summer camp for visual, creative, collaborative, and open-ended work in mathematics, combined with art.

Passionate about mathematics and art, Sara never saw them as separate disciplines.
